Freaking Out
Um Hi. I am freaking out. I just got a call that someone very close to our family was diagnosed with shingles today and to let me know that they are contagious. This is after having spent a generous amount of time holding, snuggling and kissing my Ruby this morning. I think she is too young for vaccine.
Calling all medical type people! Or moms! Or people who know things! Please email or comment and tell me that all is going to be fine and that shingles isn't very contagious. Or if it is....how contagious is it?
Holy Crap.

I have no idea what to tell you, but definitely call your pedi and see what to be on the look out for. It is a short incubation time -- like within a week -- and she would get chicken pox, not shingles. I think.
Sending you lots of shingle free hugs and kisses to Ruby.
Although shingles is contagious, I think momsmoo is correct in thinking Ruby would be getting chicken pox. Still call your pediatrician though, espesially if you're not vaccinating yet.
I understand your freaking out- my 10month old is not getting vaccines as scheduled, and I constantly worry when things like "flu season" come around.
It would present itself as Shingles in Ruby. If she has already had the first vaccination, it's not likely she would show symptoms. However, I second calling the pediatrician to make sure you shouldn't be concerned. A simple call will make you feel better.
Scratch that. It would NOT present itself as shingles in Ruby, it WOULD present as chicken pox. Gosh, I need more caffeine!
My mom had shingles when Boo was very young and had been with her for multiple days prior - hugging and loving and holding her and we never got it. I called my ped and they didn't seem to concerned by her exposure to it. I think once they have the pox vaccine they should be fine.
Ditto that it would show up as pox.
I am loving these comments! Just to be clear, she has NOT been vaccinated yet. Thus, the freaking out. Thanks guys!
yes, it will come in the form of chicken pox. check with the doctor. Don't worry. What's done is done. No sense in freaking out about it . Easy for me to say, eh?
