Weapon of Mass Lactation

I am not a woman who has a lot of milk for her baby. I work very hard at building and maintaining a decent supply. With the help of herbs and Reglan as galactagogues I have enough to keep Ruby chubby and I pump twice a day, morning and night for the freezer and am lucky to get 3 ounces. Last night, when it was time to pump I came down with a severe case of I Don't Want To, treatable only by falling asleep where I fell. I woke up this morning with Giant Hooters of Doom. Oh my. The Swelling! The Stinging! The Leaking! So I dragged myself to the pump and sucked out a good 10 oz.

On a semi-related note, when this happened with Goldie, before I figured out I needed to sleep with a bra on, we had a dog. She would climb in and roll around on my side of the bed and lap it up. We are a classy bunch.

And for more information you don't really need, I totally had to get rid of our recliner because too much of my milk got spit up onto it during the course of the year long nurse-a-thon it smelled like rotten milk. Yum.

I have the opposite issue ... Too much milk. Sound like a good thing? Yeah, come talk to me when your baby is sleeping through the night, but you aren't because you need to pump! Although my most recently case of mastitis seems to have put a bit of a damper on the supply.

I have a freezer stash over 500oz (I stopped counting at one point). What am I going to do with it all?

Oh girl. I remember those days. I took Fenugreek until I smelled like maple syrup! Good luck! Sounds like it's working! Amy

Ah yes...those nursing days. It's a blessing, and after 3 very healthy kids I swear by it - but it is NOT always fun and games.

You'll be able to hold this over their heads for the rest of their lives. Trust me, nothing shuts a mouthy teen up quicker than screaming, "Oh yeah Buddy?! Well I nursed you until you were FOUR and look what you did to my boobs!"

(For the record, he didn't even make it a year - weaned himself, but it's great fun to yell something like that around his friends. Takes the wind right out of his sails.

It's funny. Since I stopped nursing... it's like I blocked all of this "fun" stuff out of my memory completely. Maybe it's just another one of those things that your mind chooses to black out... so you'll forget long enough to try to do it again.

My "girls" were all used to the nursing schedule I had set up, until I had to nurse Jules all the way back from Kauai just to keep her from moving around too much. Now my milk supply evidently thinks I'm feeding two kids, and I too am sporting the Giant Hooters of Doom. Ack!

That's so weird about your dog "lapping" it up!!!!!! My cats wanted NOTHING to do with my breast milk. So much for all those old wives tales!
