Giant Purple Hooters

A few weeks ago nursing got painful. Bearable, but ouch. When I realized that I was starting to dread feedings I decided to call our lactation consultant Barb who is the second best thing to come out of Canada (Damn you Nanaimo bars and your creamy delightfulness!) We went in and saw her and turned out to be yeast. Um, gross. She gave us this bizarre stuff called gentian violet to put on your lady bits to cure the infection. Also, it stains everything it comes in contact with a shocking shade of purple. Interestingly enough, the milk also turns psychedelic colors and Ruby was sort of leary of a bottle full of puple milk. Even Goldie looked at me like "you really gonna make her drink that?" I also stained my kitchen table with the stuff (don't even ask why I pump at the table) But I digress, by the time we got home with the purple stuff, my boobs were on fire and by dinner time Davey was asking why I was hunched over my skillet of ground turkey weeping while I cooked. I won't even go into how the fitting for The Most Unflattering Dress Ever Made went that night at the bridal store with an 80lb vietnemese woman manhandling my cleavage . "Dwess too low, we pin, too much sexy sexy." Um, right. Sexy. I was just praying I didn't stain this awful dress and have to explain my big purple hooters to anyone. Anyway, long story short (too late eh?), after whimpering all night with the Boobs of Fire, Barb (Whom we love!adore!) got me another medicine to help kill the yeast (did I mention...gross?) Things are looking up. But not before this happened:

Oh Kirsten...I'm sorry your boobs have been killing you.

I hate to say it but I laughed my ass off when I saw that picture of Ruby! She is so cute and to see all that purple...just to much.
I had a yeast problem myself. I was prescribed Nystan*tin by the dr and it cleared up almost within a day. I put it on my lady parts as well.
I hope you are feeling better. How long did her face stay like that?
BTW, my daughter's name is pronounced just like yours with an "ear". I can't stand it when the ped's office calls "Kurstun" or worse "Kristin" (can't they read?).

Sorry this happened to you, I hope that things are on the way to getting better. At least you got a really great pic out the deal...
I meant to comment earlier on this, but...you know...kids and stuff.
Hope you are feeling better, and the purple fading away. At least you did get a cute picture out of it! BTW, rubbing alcohol will get the purples stains out of clothing and other fabrics. Most doctors forget to tell moms that; some cruel trick they play.

I had terrible yeast problems with both my daughters. My first baby looked a lot like that picture of your baby. My family called her the "Giant Purple People Eater". I'm not sure why.
Anyway, so sorry you are experiencing yeast. Don't be afraid to go to the doctor and get a prescription (for both you and the baby... it is pills for you and liquid for the baby called Diflucan) if the Gentian Violet doesn't work.
Diflucan was the only thing that worked for me, but it took me 3-4 months to get the doctor to give me some (I had to try everything else first).
ODG, I simply skip to the nystatin (sp?) which just stains everything yellow.

Well... at least purple is a nice color? Unless of course you hate purple.

that photo is so adorable! My friend's baby's mouth looked (just-about...) the same, and I had no idea what it was! I hope you're feeling well again soon!
Just stumbled across this while looking for a pattern for a nursing cover. My hubby and I were rolling with laughter. Priceless!
